1997 Mustang Cobra Specs

Here’s another Mustang Specs post. Take a look at the previous spec posts  if you haven’t already.  These specs were pulled from the Ford Performance Group website, which lists information about any Ford vehicles (Lightning, Mustang Cobras, Taurus SHO, etc). Another beautiful model, and it’s no surprise that it packs power under the hood as well. While we aren’t huge fans of the stock wheels – they are just that… stock! Not a huge deal at all, just had to throw that out there. That being said, here is some information about the 1997 SVT Mustang Cobra!

1997 SVT Cobra

1997 Mustang Cobra Specs

Engine Type: V8
Horsepower: 305 @ 5800 RPM
Compression: 9.85:1
Displacement: 4.6L/280 CID
Torque: 300 ft/lbs @ 4800 RPM

There were very little changes in the engine size and output from 1996, and minor body style changes as well. Most people we have spoken to about this model agree with us about the dislikes of the stock wheels. Either way, this car is still built solid.

Top Speed: 152 MPH
0-60 MPH: 5.9 seconds

The 1997 continued the sub 6.0 acceleration time, which was great to see. However, it still maintained the same top speed, which isn’t a huge deal.

1997 Mustang Cobra Production Information

Again, the production numbers were VERY similar, but there was one main addition. The ‘green’ convertible was not released until 1997, and those look pretty sharp if they have been well maintained. Here it is:

COUPE:
Black:
2,369
White: 1,543
Rio Red: 1,994
Green: 1,055

CONVERTIBLE:
Black:
1,180
Red:
925
White: 606
Green: 377

TOTAL: 10,049

Only 46 more SVT Cobras produced in 1997, which is nice to see. You don’t want to dilute the market and flood it with an abundance of nice cars. You want the nice cars to be rare and very few of them produced overall. It appears that is what the goal has been and will continue to be, but we will see if this trend continues in our 1998 SVT Specs.
